Deep tissue massage therapy is similar to Swedish massage, but the deeper pressure is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia.
Deep tissue massage improves blood flow throughout the body. Improved blood flow helps to reduce inflammation and in turn helps to relieves pain. Deep tissue massage breaks down the adhesions and removes the “knots”, to restore natural movement. Regular deep tissue massage sessions can break down and even eliminate the presence of scar tissue.
This massage is similar to Swedish massage, but the deeper pressure is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia.
It releases the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the grain of muscles, tendons and fascia. It is called “deep tissue” because it focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It can help reduce pain, increase range of motion, relieve muscle spasms and improve circulation.
A Deep Tissue Massage Session at our massage therapy center targets the deep layers of connective tissue and muscle tissue throughout the body. Using slow strokes to apply pressure, the massage therapist focuses on specific pain locations.
Injuries or chronic muscle tension can cause adhesions, commonly referred to as “knots”, to form in the tendons, ligaments and muscles. These adhesions are rigid, often painful, and can block proper blood circulation, impede normal movement, and cause inflammation and pain.
